Issue with Babies learning to read!

by tumaat, Jun 30, 2007 12:00AM
On a recent site i read, that babies can learn to read.
http://masterresellrightsblowout.com/Flipping/ChildandYou.php
is the page.

It seems interesting but if babies are taught to read would that not interfer with their development process.  I mean aren't there other developmental activities such as nervous system development occuring.  Just looking at the safety repercussions for babies here.

Thanks

Yes, it is not by accident that learning to read is a task assigned to first grade (and to some extent kindergarten). This is not to say that children are not able to learn how to read prior to kindergarten/first grade, as witnessed by the numbers of children who enter first grade already able to read. But development unfolds in a sequence as cognitive abilities unfold, and it is not wise or reasonable to promote premature acquisition of some skills. Readiness is the key issue, and most children are not ready to learn to read before the age of five (or so), give/take some months.
