Rhinoplasty and Current Medications

by llovette, May 21, 2007 12:00AM
I am having rhinoplasty in 3 weeks and I am concerned about the medicine I am currently on affecting my surgery.  My surgeon is aware of the medication but has not voice any concern and I know if I need to go off of it then i need to do it now.  I have been on Effexor for a little over a year for general anxiety.  I read some articles that stated it could cause excess bleeding after surgery and discontinue use for atleast 2 weeks before and after surgery.

Can you let me know how Effexor will affect my surgery?  I am currently taking 150 mg once a day.  Do I need to go off the medication before surgery?

Effexor can cause bleeding and bruising as a side effect.  I have not found it to be a problem, but discontiuning its use for several weeks prior to surgery is not a bad idea.  Check with the doctor who is prescribing it for you.
