Urethral polyp removal surgery

Please help! I hope someone out there has been through a similar experience to offer some guidance. I have had a protruding urethral polyp since I was 15, some 15 years ago! and has not given me any problems, but my doctor wants to remove it for fear it will rupture during intercourse/stimulation/etc. or that it can cause a bladder infection further down the road because it's exposed. I'm so nervous about the surgery though! What if afterwards I have pain peeing or with intercourse for the rest of my life, what about scarring! Please someone add some insight!

PLease get it evaluated by a urologist or urogynecologist. Without seeing it, it is hard to tell, but it is possible that it may be a diverticulum of the urethra, which can sometimes be a nuisance. If it is a diverticulum, these can be excised, with minimal risk of future problems as a result. The key, though is to have it done by an MD experienced in this area.
