IUD/Coil removal absent period

by emily1981, Jan 11, 2006 12:00AM
Hi. I have just had my coil removed and my period is 6 days late. Ive done 4 pregnancy tests and all are negative. Has anyone else had there periods disrupted by taking the coil out? it wasn't a mirena just a straight forward copper coil. I had it taken out 19 days after the beginning of my last period.

My first period upon removal of my IUD was extremely light, barely even spotted. I was able to use pantiliners through the entire thing. How long did you have it in before you got it removed? Had you been having regular cycles?

Always spot on 26 days, thats why I was thinking I was pregnant. I've had it in though for 5 years so can't remember exactly what they were like before. Did your cycle go back to normal after the first month? Im trying to conceive so now Im all messed up about when I'm going to be ovulating etc.

I had mine removed on Nov 7th, the day before ovulation was to occur. I had a very strange thing with spotting after intercourse the first few days post-removal and then on the 22nd I started a 3 day spotting thing. I took a bunch of tests but all HPT's said not pg, so I made the assumption it was in fact my af(the 3 day spotting thing). Then, in December, I got 2 BFP's just before AF was due but then af showed up on X-mas eve, leading me to believe it was a chemical pregnancy. My cycles had always been really light but this one had me doubling over in pain and was quite heavy and lasted more than ym standard 3 day af.

I just O'd, so I am now on the dreaded 2 week wait. The good news is that there aren't any chemical/hormonal effects from the IUD to work around. It is a matter of timing and figuring out your cycle again. Removing mine certainly altered things a bit, but I am still Oing, so that is a good sign.

What kind of tests have you been taking? How late are you again? Maybe run this past your doctor, see what they think.

I got what I guess is my period this morning so shall I count 14 days from today as my ovulation date? Its not like my normal period.

I would keep it in the back of your mind, just in case. That is what I did and is seemed to work out.

Keep an eye out for the other signs of ovulation, like ewcm. I look for that, a major increase in sex drive, and then inevitably the side cramp. Of course, not everyone feels the side pain or has these signs.

I use what I call the Andi Method. It requires quite a commitment from you and dh. Basically, once the spotting/af stops, bd every other day throughout your cycle. If you are ovulating and all is well with dh's swimmers, you are bound to hit the egg eventually.

Good luck and keep me updated as to how things are going.

I have had 2 kids but got the mirena coil in 2years ago, my periods stopped which was heaven, however my hubby an i would love another baby.

so i went to my doc to ask her to remove my coil, she wouldnt do it that day as she said it would be easier if it was done while i had a period but as i dnt get them she gave me 2 tablets to take. 1 that night and the other the next morning b4 going to c her. this was to soften the insides and uterus to make it easier to get the coil out.

hope this helps.

Hi, I had the normal copper coil fitted 6 months ago.  I am in agony every month and periods far heavier.  This is the second coil fitted but I cannot remember this happening with previous one.  I had it out for 4 years then had my little girl which is my third child.  Don't want anymore this is why I got it fitted again.  Am I able to have it removed at anytime or do I have to wait for next cycle?  Also can I go to gp for this? Thanks so much for any help given.
Lianne
PS - Do you normally gain weight with coil?

I'm due to have my coil out next week and was just wondering how painful the procedure is. Is it worse that having it put in ( which I found hideously painful!!)
Thanks

Ive had 2 coils (merina), the 1st for 5 years, and the 2nd for just over 2 years. I had my coil out 3-4 weeks ago (wasnt too sore.easier than i thought) I never even had any bleeding! Ive always been paranoid because i dont get a period & i want to give my body a chance to get back to 'normal' for a couple of years before we have another baby. So my doc gave me the pill to take for about a week before it was due to be removed. I never had a period at all when i had the coil in. I took my last pill last week, but ive still not had my period?!?!?? Im due to start taking my pill tomorrow, but not sure what to do.  Does anyone know if this is normal?
Also, after having the coil removed our sex life has reached a whole new level!!! It feels different for both me and my fiance!!!
As for the weight gain....My weight has been up and down since i had the coil in. this was also another reason for me getting it out. Ive read soooo many reviews about the coil causing weight gain! Everytime i asked my doctor, she said this wasnt possible! I think my doctor is on commission with the coil!!!!!  She wont hear anything bad being said about it :o)

Hi

I have had my coil in for just a little over 2 years now after having my 3rd baby girl.  At frist the thought of having no periods with the coil was a blessing but in fact has made me worry more.  In the last 6 months I have took repeated pregnancy tests to find that they are neg thank goodness because I don't want any more kids atm.  I am having very weird side effects with this which my doctor assures me it has nothing to do with the coil ( Previous Post Everytime i asked my doctor, she said this wasnt possible! I think my doctor is on commission with the coil!!!!!  She wont hear anything bad being said about it :o) )  Hands Up to you because I think the exact same.  I have not put any weight on with it however I have been having tingles in face and arms,  really bad backaches, headaches and pelvic pain.  Also whilst shopping after first having it fitted my leg went dead right in the middle of the mall all people staring hubby getting embarrased.  Has anyone else had similar problems ?  I am getting mine out hopefully they can't find the strings so I am booked in for an appointment for an ultrasound.  Fingers X As I want the damn thing out :O
