Flu like Feelings

by ben2oscar, Apr 05, 2005 12:00AM
Hello,

Since November I have been coming down with flu-like symptoms...Sore throat, congested chest and sinuses, shakey; body aches, run down...usually without a fever, (even though I feel like I have one) so I don't think it's influenza. Before I get sick I have these small raised bumps on my body, not a rash, more like hives, and I also feel sick to my stomache. However, it is like clock work, every three weeks or so I get sick like this. Sometimes it is worse than others. The major unwell feeling lasts about three days, then I spend the next two days just feeling run down.

Should I see my Dr? She has diagonsed me with fibromyalgia, though I don't buy it.

Thanks,

V. Williams

This is not influenza and may not be fibromyalgia.  Many autoimmune diseases and some infectious diseases can be relapsing, most notably malaria and Lyme disease.  The recurrence of this illness, ". like clockwork, every 3 weeks", could be secondary to a regular exposure of some kind or, if you are a woman, to the menstrual cycle.  You should be seen, either by an Internist or a Rheumatologist.

I believe there is a good chance that this is Lyme disease
