Follow up cat scans

by 4tricia, Oct 18, 2005 12:00AM
I have never smoked nor had any lung disease , yet scar tissue has showed up on a recent catscan. I am being told to have a follow up catscan in 3-4 months. This worries me. Is this the usual procedure?

The radiologist interpreting the CT scan would request that you have a follow up CT scan based on the degree of certainty about the scar tissue.  When anything is seen on a CT scan it’s common to have it repeated.  Having the follow up CT scan in 3 to 4 months is reasonable.

You could also ask your doctor to have your CT scan reviewed by a different radiologist.  A radiologist who specializes in chest imaging would be most helpful.
