Lung Cancer / Pneumonia / Hep B

by rambo45, Jan 17, 2006 12:00AM
After 4 rounds of antibiotics my 45 yr old brother was admitted with resistant pneumonia -- they found a 3.5 cent. tumor in lung.  They sent him to palliative care and 6 days later he died with no biopsy or treatment at all -- he also had dormant hep B, could this have played a factor? All we know is CT scan showed there were 2 small lesions on liver, swollen spleen and enlarged bowel. Any help would be appreciated.

The best way to approach this is to ask your brother’s doctor(s) why he was sent to palliative care.  Also ask what type of pneumonia he had, why it was deemed to be untreatable, and if he had any problem with his immune system.

Dormant hepatitis B was most likely a contributor to his poor health, but not the cause of his pneumonia, nor the cause of his death.
