My Son's Exposure to TB (2nd post)

by IKAP, Aug 11, 2006 12:00AM
Hello,

I posted earlier (7/17/06)on my 10 years old son’s possible TB exposure (PPD 15-16 mm, chest x-ray negative). Thank you very much for such a great reply! There is something I’d like to double check with you. Unfortunately, the Quantiferon test is not available here. Is it safe to repeat the PPD in 2 months after the initial test to make sure it’s not EM related?  What if the first PPD was accurate and my son was indeed exposed  can the repeat test(since it's more PPD antigen going into his body)make the induration much bigger, or cause the allergic reaction or somehow activate the virus?

On my son’s Chest X-RAY it said: “Slightly prominent bilateral and peribronchial markings”. The pediatrician said it’s nothing, has nothing to do with TB and concluded that the scan is negative. Can you please give me your opinion? My son has allergies but besides that he feels just fine.

Thank you!

Another PPD can safely be done.  Without seeing the actual chest x-ray, I cannot comment on its meaning.
