Laminectomy

by Roystc, Aug 17, 2007 05:49PM
I was wondering is there anyway of finding out about neck injuries caused by driving? I worked for 5 years driving a Volvo 150 front loader inside a building loading and unloading paper in the paper industry. The Volvo’s are purchased and an oversized front bucket is put on so you are made to drive backwards all the time. In May I had to go and see a Harley Street Neurosurgeon Sanj Bassi (the best neurosurgeon in the world as far as I’m concerned) because of the pain I was in and he immediately admitted me to the Cronwell Hospital and I had to undergo a triple Laminectomy to release the pressure off the spinal cord in the neck. The consultant has said that this driving and the turning round action to look over my shoulders every time I moved the vehicle has contributed to the deterioration of my neck as it narrowing the neck. My works has now installed cameras at the rear of the Volvos and monitors inside to limit the turning around action. I was wondering how I could find out if there are many injuries like this and if it is a common condition for drivers.
Many thanks

I think the Bureau )of Labor and Industries would have those statistics. Or Workers Comp insurance companies. I know from personal experience also that driving such as you did would definately cause major problems. I do just getneral auto driving 8 hrs a day, and the constant movement and vibrations contribute to a lot of health issues. Good luck.
