Recovery of arm and leg

by washy21, Aug 22, 2007 06:05AM
Hi, I posted a while back. My dad survived a massive stroke 4 weeks ago. However, against all the odds, and after being told he had only hours to live he has survived.

He is bed ridden but very 'with it' although sleepy at times. He seems to have no signs of life on his left side and obviously the question is does this mean that it is like this for ever.

My dad says that his left arm and leg are plastic and he doesn't like to acknowledge that they are actually there. The re hab doesn't seem that involved and so I'm wondering what the prognosis might be given that the stroke was only 28 days ago.

Thanks

He should still continue to recover for the next 2-3 months.   He is experiencing "neglect" symptoms which usually go away.   Sometimes, strength returns when his neglect disappears.  You should try and make him aware of the L. side as much as possible.    Good thing he survived this massive stroke.
