Denying my claims

by jst4shanell, Aug 26, 2007 03:16PM
I got health insurance in February 07'.  A few months later I broke my back while snowboarding.  I am seeing a neurologist and have had a few MRI's done.  My bills are adding up to 25,000 or so.  I was just informed that my insurance company is denying my claims saying I didn't wait long enough to break my back.  Is this something I can fight??  I don't know what to do or how to go about it.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
p.s.  My back is still not better (a lot of pain), so I still need to be seeing my doctors.

They might have had a waiting period before the policy became active--that probably is what you mean by "not waiting long enough to break your back".  Also, sometimes if you participate in an activity that is high risk, it may be specifically excluded from coverage.  Some motorcyclists have found out the hard way that their injuries may not be covered, even if they have health insurance.

You can appeal the decision, and sometimes you'll win.  Worth a try.
