epidermoid vs arachnoid tumor

by deborah44, Aug 28, 2007 01:21PM
Over the last year I have had problems with having a "popping" noise when either ear is to the phone and progressively worsening over the last few months to now a "whistling" very high pitch to my ears. I can really hear it when it is quiet. Dr. sent me to have an MRI done after complaining of head pressure ( I thought was sinus or something). The MRI came back with either an arachnoid or epidermoid cyst located on the left CPA. Now, it seems that I will have to have a diffusion weighted MRI to determine which of these I have. My question is this- Is it necessary to have this diffusion weighted scan before seeing a neurosurgeon? Wouldn't either type of cyst require that a neurosurgeon see me?
