Twitching in arches of both feet and ocassional all over

March   Alternating left to right pain in groin

April Saw GP--night sweats, tingling sensations –CBC, rheumatoid factor, lyme, PSA, sed rate-all normal.  CT scan pelvic abdoman normal.  Suggested Neurologist

May 3 Neurologist normal exam- night sweats stopped  Sensation in my penis and foot when bending head forward.  Neuro said everything OK

May 12 Another neurologist-explained above symptoms including twitches  Ordered cervical MRI.revealed some degenerative disc disease, osteophyte, mild retrolisthesis of c4 on c5 with ventral ridging on the thecal sac.  Some ventral ridging at c6 and c7 and mild central soft disc protrusion without significant neural compression.  No Stenosis

May 20 Spine doctor –plain x-rays looked at MRI mechanical problems.  Suggested PT

May 27 Occasional pain (burning, buzzing or pulsing nerve like difficult to explain)  radiating into fingers or hands throughout the day.  Twitches and panic attacks

June 1 Buzzing gone in foot, however still feel occasional vibratory pulsing or twitching sensations in left foot and butt area, twitching arches of feet more on left, buzzing burning pulsing sensation in right eyebrow/face

June 29 twitching in both arches. Headache for couple weeks unilateral and bilateral, Insomnia.  My left leg feels weaker  sore and fatigued.  I am anxious about ALS MS Tumor

Why dose the buzzing/twitch my foot become worse after walking for a while?

Can the cervical problems in my neck cause these symptoms?

Do the burning sensations followed by twitches be early signs of als?

Could a virus cause these problem?

If you have a normal objective neurological examination by your neurologists without muscle weakness or wasting, the fasciculations are unliklely to be caused by ALS. Other more common causes of fasciculations include benign fasciculation caused by exercise (ie walking!), cold, certain medications or a syndrome associated with cramps, pinched nerves or some rare viral infections (such as West Nile or Polio). Burning sensations are not a sign of ALS as ALS affects the motor not sensory nerves.



Your MRI findings (although I cannot confirm the accuracy of the scan) seem to be not enough to cause your symptoms, although the ridging at C6,7 in certain body positions could cause some sensory symptoms in the hand. Flexion and extension plain xray views if not done already could tell if there is significant movement during dirrent neck positions of the bones. Have your B12, folate levels, thyroid hormone been done and an RPR checked for syphilis, or a monoclonal protein analysis (if you are older), if not these are simple blood tests.  There are no other specific viral tests, although if you have risk factors for HIV (such as unprotected sex, exposure to infected needles etc) you should get a HIV test. There is no suggestion from the information you provide and in the absence of a focal neurological examination a tumor is also unlikely. I cannot tell you for sure as I have not examined you myself

The first thing you should do is to rule out a drug reaction. Many drugs taken up to a few months earlier can bring the symptoms that you describe. There are hundreds of neurotoxic medicines out there, and they are loosely prescribed. Some very common reactions to certain antibiotics are not even known by most doctors. For instance, quinolone antibiotics are extremely agressive on the nervous system for long treatments or high doses, but some people also develop neuropathies that last for years after only a few pills, without being allergic to them.

Check also all the over the counter remedies, and herbals that you were currently taking.
