Have you been tested for HIV or HTLV? Not to scare you, but those two types of viruses most definitely lead to neuropathy especially in their early stages.
Hope this helps. I can't say that the valtrex has helped with the burning sensation. I am really afraid of it becoming chronic and getting worse. I've learned to live with the ringing in my ears but I don't want to live with chronic pain.
Please keep in mind that HSV sheds viral particles 2-3 days before a person is symptomatic. So unless one is on suppressive therapy and symptom free, or symptom free and planning a pregnancy, condoms should be used. Folks should also know that herpes from the mouth, etc can be spread to the genital area. The saying “It isn’t really sex.” doesn’t hold true as far as STDs.
