Neck Pain

by appleeye, Aug 07, 2007 12:00AM
I am worried that I may have a brain tumor.  The last 4 nights I have been having trouble sleeping (insomnia).  Every little sound makes me jump or twitch.  When I am just about to fall asleep my body jitters/twitches and I wake up.  Also, I have started to sweat during the night which is totally not like me, usually I am cold.  The left side of my neck is so stiff and I feel as if I hear a clicking sound when I move my neck.  Two nights in a row I awoke from a dead sleep with a jump, like a tremor and then of course could not fall back asleep.
I had a MRI of the brain and a C-spine October 2006 and it was unremarkable.  Also, this May 2007 I had a CT scan of the brain and again they found nothing.  Are these enough tests to rule out a brain tumor?

Thanks for the email. A CT scan is a good screening test for brain tumors but not as good as an MRI with and without contrast. The fact that nothing was seen in encouraging. You mentioned that you have had symptoms for the last 4 nights but you had testing done in October 06 and May 07 so something has been going on for longer that a few days. it seems doubtful that you have a brain tumor as the cause of your symptoms and should see a neurologist for further evaluation. I have a lot of pain all over my body. It started with a knee ache, then got swollen, I couldn't put pressure on it but then my other knee became swollen and painful as well from applying pressure on it. A day later I was going down some stairs and decided to swing like a monkey applying pressure to my arms which then afterwards I had pain all over. slowly but surely it became more tolerable but I seem to always be in pain. I mainly have pain in my neck and shoulders. My bones crack a lot, I have numbness in my hands and tingling as well. I feel as if I turn my neck quickly I can easily be whiplashed. If I am in a position for to long once I move or get up I am very sore. When I wake up in the morning I feel very soar. I had been under a lot of stress but I know realize that maybe it affected me so I have slowed down with the worrying. Pleaase help Me , I am only 30 yrs old and I feel as if I am 60!!!   It is awful.

Makes me wonder if you have had exposure to ticks?  Then another question is if you have had a spinal injury or car wreck etc.  What about headaches?  I have chronic pain all over and I had an MRI in which a syrinx was revealed and have had 3 vertabra in my neck removed and a titanium cage reconstruction so I am fused from C3-7.  I have severe chronic pain in my neck, head, back (mostly upper) and legs.  My shoulders hurt crack a lot and I experience the numbness in my arms hands and right side from trunk to my knee.  Trying to find someone to relate to and that experiences the same suffering.  Let me know if you have seen a Dr. and what tests if any you have had.
