Ca 125 doubled

by Conquerer, Sep 01, 2007 01:19PM
I am a 3 B ovarian cancer patient.  I had Iv taxotere and IP Cispaltin and taxol.   When I finished treatment my CA 125 was at 1.8  now 6 months later it is at 3.5  Is this ok.  MY doc said during my exam everything felt fine and I had a CAT scan 2 months ago with no evidence of cancer.  I just don't know why it has gone up and when I should start worrying.  They say if your CA 125 double to worry  so when do I start to worry.
Thanks for your time   Also have you used Femara as an adjunct treatment before any signs have turned up?

Hi There,

when we think of doubling of the CA 125, worry comes when one sees values go up as in  the following example:
5 then 30 then 60 then 200 and so on.

when values are below 20, one will see variation based on the lab assay and not what is going on in your body.

For your peace of mind, I would suggest repeating the CA 125 monthly for  a few months so that you can see what normal lab variations look like. (example: 2 then 5 then 3 then 8 then 1.8 etc).

On the other hand if there seems to be a trend in your CA 125 value where each time it is checked, it is higher than the previous value (as in the first example ), then you should talk with your doctor about getting s CT scan or looking inside the abdomen with laparoscopy.

take care
