Peek? Need a answer about medication

by Kim1989, Sep 02, 2007 06:34PM
my dog has an ear infection. And he got a hold of it and punched a hole in it. i picked it up and gave it to my mother.  i washed my hands off and it says: "clinical and experimental data have demonstrated that corticosteroids administered orally or parentally to animals may induce the first stage of parturition if use during the last trimester of pregnancy and may precipate premature parturition followed by dystocia, fetal death, retained placenta and metritis." is all that just in the thrid trimester? i washed my hands maybe 2 mins after i touched it. did my skin have enough time to absorb it? am i ok?

No, you should be ok.  If you perhaps ate it, that might be a different story, but a brief exposure through the skin, which you washed off right away, won't matter.  All of those drugs can be used in pregnancy in humans, btw.

I don't know why it said that, but dogs are not human, and many medications that can be used in humans cannot be used in dogs and vice versa.

All three of those drugs can be given in pregnancy.  You only had a brief skin exposure, which you washed off promptly.  Don't worry about it.
