Creatinine Level

by DT72, Sep 06, 2007 11:35PM
I am a 35 years old male. I underwent a standard medical check up every year. Recent check up was done last month. The following are results on renal function:

1. My serum creatinine is 1.4mg/dl and the previous result was in the region of 1.3mg/dl
2. Creatinine clearance is 70
3. Ultrasound of abdominal showed normal kidney size and texture
4. No family history of kidney disease
5. Blood pressure is normal
6. No diabetes
7. Urinanalysis showed no present of sodium, protein etc and no cast and is clear urin
8. Urin creatinine is 1.5g/24 hours and urine volume is about 2200ml

I was on Modalim (drug to control my trigriseryte level) for about 1.5 year and was on Life Pack (health supplement from Pharmanex) for around 1 year. I have since stopped the intake of the drug and all health supplement for about 3 weeks now and adopting a healthy lifestyle.

Due to my nature of work, I exercise very little accept playing golf averagely once a week. I am a meat eater and drink little water while in the office. I consider myself quite muscular with some tummy fat and I am on the overweight status (BMI of 29).

My concerns as follow:

1. Do I develop kidney disease?
2. Will my medical condition improve should I adopt a healthy lifestyle?
3. Will changes in diet lead to eventually changes on the creatinine level?
4. Is my medication and health supplement lead to this result?
5. Should I perform a re-test after a few months after adopting a healthy lifestyle to further access the situation?

Please advise as I am quite disturb mentally on the result. Thanks.

To answer your questions:
1) The tests you have mentioned above does not suggest significant kidney disease.
2) I always encourage a healthy lifestyle will help prevent a variety of conditions.
3) Repeating the creatinine level can be done.  The numbers are even within the range of lab variation.
4) It is possible for the supplement to raise the creatinine level.
5) I agree with the decision to re-test the creatinine level in a few months.

These questions should be discussed with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
