Hashimoto's ANA

by LauraDiaz, Sep 07, 2007 11:13AM
Hello, I have Hashimoto's and was dx after the birth of my first child. I was hyper at that time and responded to medication and TSH evels returned to normal after a few months.  Two years later I had another child. My levels have been normal throughout. My baby is now 7 months old and I am feeling terrible.  It feels like the same thyroid symptoms I had before...........but my TSH levels are normal. I am having extreme fatigue, hair loss, swollen glands, etc.  My doctor did an ANA but it was not too high (1-80) or something like that.  My question is..........can you experience the symtoms of Hashimoto's with normal thyroid levels?  They are looking at lupus but they said they do not think it may be that and if so it may be mild.  Any help would be appreciated!

Yes - you likely have mild hypothyroidism due to hashi even with the "normal" TSH -- normal is 0.3-3.0 for my lab and many others are using this as well.  The low ANA titre is non-specific.

What causes the extreme fatigue?  My face has nearly made contact with my desk at work while I'm writing, or in a meeting at work, even nearly doze off driving a short distance.  I know it's not nacolepsy.  As long as I am moving I'm okay.  Also learned in conversation that a YAWN does not mean you are sleepy; it means your body is deprived of oxygen.  I don't know if I should have my primary should I engage with sleep study or what.  I am taking a B-12 tablet once a day.
