Does Monistat affect the baby?

by Jenny100, Sep 09, 2007 11:46PM
I am 39 weeks and 4 days pregnant. I think I have a yeast infection because I am extremely itchy "down there". No discharge, just itchy.
I may possibly be induced on Wednesday if I have dilated a couple centimeters. My question is, if I start a Monistat regimen, is there going to be medication in my vaginal canal that will affect the baby when I am giving birth? Or does it not affect them?
If I did the one-day treatment would that be better because then I would have a couple days for it to get out of the birth canal?

Anyone have any knowledge or experience with this?

was it prescripted by you  doc. it is ok? but if not then i won't use any thing, being itchy it is so common in the last weeks of pregnancy. ask your doctor tomorrow morning!

No, not prescribed. Just over the counter. So it doesn't always mean yeast infection even with itchiness?

You should ask your doctor today.  No, general itchiness in the vag area does not always mean a yeast infection.  I'd ask, aren't you going to see him/her today or tomorrow?

They have those test at the store you can take now to find out what kind of infection it is.  I hear they work very well.

On the Monistat - I would check with your doctor, but I had one earlier in my pregnancy and was told by my doc that it was ok as long as it stayed on the outside (not sure what he thought I was doing with it).  However my cervix was still closed and I don't know about yours since you're almost due.

To: Peek, all
Yeah I'm going to the Dr. tomorrow morning, but I was thinking by then it's too close to giving birth--(if i do get induced on Wednesday) to have the Monistat out of there before the baby comes through.

As of last Wednesday I was dilated to a one.
Oh yeah---Peek---If you do give birth with a yeast infection, isn't that what gives the baby thrush?

by peekawho, Sep 10, 2007 09:06AM
Not necessarily.  Women normally carry yeast in their vaginal tracts.  Its there all the time.  Thrush is very common in infants and easily treatable.  Some infants get it, some don't.

Just call today and ask if you're worried.  They might tell you to go right ahead and use it.  I can't give you advice about your situation, because I am not a doctor.

To: Do not use Monistat1!!!It is dangerous
It can hurt your baby or just you.  70% of women have bad reactions to this product.  It is horrible.  You will have a intense burning in your vagina for days and sometimes for weeks.  It has miconazole nitrate 1200 mg in it and it could lay a horse down!!!!!  Trust me because I am filinf a class-action lawsuit against them because of what the product did to me and the thousands of women on the internet complaining about the reactions with many very serious......again do not take Monistat 1 it is dangerous.
The maker of this product is Johnson and Johnson where Sale Johnson the wife of one of the big shots were quoted severqal times as saying the product is dangerous and her husband would not allow her to take it.
monistat1 is dangerous!!!!!  Do not take!!!!!!
