Can it be bone cancer??

by Idab, Sep 12, 2007 07:42AM
Hi, I have been having bone pain for the past 18 months in both my legs and arms.   I am a 37 yr old female.  The femur bones in both legs pain the worst - it started off subtly (after a severe urinary tract infection) and when seeing various GP's they did all the tests for potassium/calcium/ etc - these always came back clear.  I then got extremely ill throughout 2006 with severe stomach pain (undiagnosed).  I saw a Neurologist on the recommendation of my gastro specialist that the leg pain could be nerve related.  Unfortunately depression got in the way and this is all the Neurologist saw, so I have been on a 2 month course of anti-depressants.  The leg bone pain has come back in full force.  I am currently taking anti-inflammatory tablets which my GP has prescribed to try and help, but these wear off within a few hours.  I am seeing her again on the 17th Sep and would like to know what questions I can ask her with regards to what tests can be done to rule out any disease of the bones.  All the blood tests that the Neurologist did, including blood cancer tests, came back clear?  I am at a loss for the pain I am going through - and not sure how to help myself as when it occurs (the constant gnawing/sharp stabbing pains deep inside the leg bones, mostly toward the front of my legs), I almost need to stop what I am doing as it seems to shoot right through to my brain, making me very aware that something is not right.  I am also deathly tired.

Your assistance is much appreciated.

it's reassuring you've had noermal blood tests and seen GPs, neurologists, gastroenterologists, they're good people to see with gnawing leg bone pain in the front.  Go ask for more help from your neurologist, in addition to the anti-depressants there are other medicines that can decrease the pain, like neurontin.

Did you go see your neurologist?
