Tachycardia after eating

by KLB32, Sep 13, 2007 05:48PM
I don't know why but I sometimes get tachy after eating.  Does this happen to anyone else?  Have you ever been able to figure out why?

It never seems to get above 120 bpm and seems to calm down if I lay down but still very annoying.

I get it if I eat too quickly. But once the food goes down and I slow down, my heart pops back into a normal rate. But that's PSVT for you - on and off without warning.

Everytime i eat :) There are several theories why this may be happening, the most common ive heard is in reguards to the increase in blood flow to the abdominal region to aid in digestion..which may accelerating the heart rate a bit.. Mine also stays in the 120 range, from about 10-15 minutes after i stop eating until about 30 minutes to an hour later.

I also experience the same thing and it worries me every time, but I am used to it after having it happen since I was a teen (I'm 46 now).  It happens worse when I eat a lot or something heavy (like a lot of red meat).  I now never go to all you can eat buffets!  I figure it is probably just the heart reacting to the stress of digestion, and nothing more, but I refrain from doing too much until my heart beat goes back to normal!  I do suffer occasion tachy and irregular heart beats (with or without eating involved) and have been on Beta Blockers (Inderol) for years.  But I have had the heart / eating thing since long before that.  The best remedy for me has been to eat smaller meals but more often!
