Coreg Vs Defibrillator

by pjmac, Sep 17, 2007 06:15PM
I have a lower heart valve that does not close an enlarged heart. I have  been admitted to the hospital twice in heart failure...my doctor has put me on coreg because he believes over time it will repair my heart valve and reduce the size of my heart. If not they will put defibrillator. how does this work compared to a pace maker...

Thank you

The only thing that I can say anthing about is -   Coreg has a Beta Blocker and maybe that will give your heart time to heal.  What dosage are you on?

My Primary Dr. had me on 40mg of Coreg while at the same time my Cardiologist had me on an event monitor. (?)  I didn't use the monitor much because it seems that the Coreg was "controling" my heart.  I would feel the start of an "event" and before I could push the monitor, the symptom would be gone.  (Me thinks the 2 Drs. were at odds - lol).  So maybe that is why you are on the Coreg.

Note-  I am not on Coreg any longer because my supplemental Ins. refused to pay for it. -:(

I am sure that there are others that will have a more difinitive answer but that is my experience with Coreg.  Good stuff for what it does.

Good luck

The generic version of Coreg is on the market now, and it's a $4.00 prescription at Walmart.

Thank you for your input, how about the prospect of putting in a defibrilator any comments on that...and by the way, I am on 80mg of Coreg a day. so far the doctor has supplied me with it, but I will discuss the generic, I happen to have an account at Walmart...thanks

Hi there.  I happen to be on coreg and have a defibrillator..lucky I guess.  What part of your heart is enlarged?  Also, do you know what your EF is?  There is usually a criteria for ICD implanation, I think it is 30% EF or lower for most insurances to pay for one.  Or you need to have serious rhythm problems or cardiomyopathy.  I hate my ICD and love it all at the same time, it does save lives.  It is nice to know that I am covered when that dangerous rhythm decides to rear its ugly head.  Good luck!
