no right side feeling, but movement and strength

by grammasal, Sep 17, 2007 08:17PM
My very dear friend at 72 (2 weeks ago) had a stroke.  At first her speech was garbled, but since then her speech has returned.  She is in rehab doing well.  My question is since she can move her right arm, hand, leg, foot and has strength in all the above, is it possible that her feeling will return in time - she has not feeling on that side.  She is eating and doesn't seem to have any paralysis in throat. ???

It is your friend's great luck that she has returned to almost normal in terms of her strength.   Some of the feeling will come back but the bulk of her stroke may have affected her sensation and it may return slowly or not at all.    She should learn to work around her deficit as it may cause her to hurt herself without noticing.

I also had right side numbness after my stroke without impairment of strength or movement.
But when the numbness subsided a hot-cold,tingling pain set in,especially in my right leg. This has robbed the joy of living from me. I wish I had the numbness back.I was much happier with less feeling and freedom from pain.

Thank you for your response - although friend continued to make progress and small amounts of feeling - very small amounts continue to return she is now having a problem with spiking blood pressure - medicines have been changed increased but still continues to spike - very scary for her - like she's sitting on a time bomb waiting for a worse stroke - any comments would be appreciated

Guess we have to be cautious what we wish for - it could be worse - thank you for your comment - I'm sorry to hear that you now have anothr problem - my friends life is somewhat joyless at this point...although friend continued to make progress and small amounts of feeling - very small amounts continue to return she is now having a problem with spiking blood pressure - medicines have been changed increased but still continues to spike - very scary for her - like she's sitting on a time bomb waiting for a worse stroke - any comments would be appreciated...she was an extremely active independent woman and this recent blood pressure problem has limited everything - she isn't even allowed rehab - wanted her to get 2nd opinion - go out of town, but she is very loyal to her Dr's - she actually has 3 that have been consulting about this blood pressure problem, but so far hasn't subsided.  Not every day, but days pressure spikes way too high...thanks again
