mettalic smell, strange body sensations, weakness

My 84 yr. old mother has been having these odd episodes lately. It starts with a mettalic/medicinal smell, an indescribable sensation starting behind the eyes, travelling up the head and back down through the body to the feet. Sometimes they don't travel all the way through the body but stop at different spots. After that it is followed by weakness that lasts a short period then everything is fine. She has had a history of stroke, high blood pressure, atrial fib. She also has macular degeneration but can still see. She is on blood thinners, heart med, paxil. Has anyone has every heard of anything like this?

her kidneys might be shutting down, she has uremia acidosis maybe?
