Unexplaned scalp swelling and puffy eyes

by Liz Rod, Sep 21, 2007 09:32AM
I went biking(aprox 10 miles up and down hill) a week ago and while I was on the bike trail pain developed above my right ear to the point that I couldn't tolerate my sunglasses any more. When I got home I noticed swelling in my eyes and around my right ear.  I had a craniotomy (to remove an Osteoma in the skull above my right ear) 3 years ago and the only complications have been headaches and photophobia once in a while.  A Titanium Mesh plate was placed.  Can anyone help me with information about the etiology of this swelling.  CT scan was done, a few days ago,and multiple blood tests and everything apears to be normal.  My neck is hurting when I turn my head.

Did you ever get an answer to this problem? My husband had the same thing happen to him  two weeks ago. He is post craniotomy with titanium mesh plate from a fall that happened 3 years ago. His head swelled over the plate area, which is also on the right side, he had a terrific headache and his neck hurt so bad he could not turn his head. After an ER visit where they did blood work and gave him an antibiotic, he saw the neurologist who ordered an MRI. All his tests came back normal. The swelling has gone down, but we would really like to know what caused this. My son said that the three year warranty on the plate was up and after three years "swelling and headaches" may occur:) We are always joking about his injury, but would like to know if this new thing is something we should be concerned about.
