Possible melanoma

by crowheart, Sep 21, 2007 02:37PM
Great forum here!  I just had a biopsy(shave..yikes) of a very black mole like thing taken off of the  middle  finger of my right hand. The spot previously had been a very small flat brownish spot, which I have had for years I think. It's hard to tell in places like that( in between fingers). The other day I thought I had a speck of dirt on my finger and then I found this tiny black ever so very slightly raised mole in the place the brown mole had been, and probably  the same size in diameter ,  except as I said ever so slightly raised SCARY!. I could not see any of the previously brown mole that had been there. Needless to say I rushed to skin doctor and he said we need to biopsy it. The Doctor didn't give me any opinion if this was a melanoma or not.  Even though I tried to get his opinion. Personally I think it is. The black color scared me. After searching the internet I am even more scared. Why on earth does it take almost 2 weeks to get results back on a biopsy? That is not right. For Breast tissue (my wife ) they get results back fast because they know people tend to anguish over this. I have not been able to concentrate for 4 days. I am recently unemployed and depressed anyway. The doctor did say that in the past they used to watch moles this size, but that if they grow many times it is to late. Then I said what do we do if this is cancer? and he said, "well at this point it's cured". The whole thing is kind of strange to me. I have done some internet research and saw that this could be acral lentigous melanoma sp? which is highly agressive more so than the others according to a couple sites is went to. And tends to metastasize quicker. Any insight or help would be appreciated. Freaking in Illinois

Thanks...

I called to get the results today and they said the slide was in, but the Dr was out of town. I gues the Dr according to the receptionist is also a dermopathalogist as well as a skin doctor and he will read the slide himself.
