To Hepatitis Researcher re: custom tx

Hello HR, good to see you again.

What do you think about the efficacy of interferon beta 1-a as a substitute for peginterferon alpha?  Supposedly the beta has fewer sx with higher rate SVR.  Here's a link to a study in Asia.  Is there any reason to believe that Caucasians and Asians would respond to tx differently?

I intend to tailor my tx using beta, riba and Alinia.   I'm geno 1, 10 million VL, mild damage F0-F1, infected for 25 years via blood transfusion.  Thanks for your input.

It is hard to say if the conclusion of this study re the lesser sides of ifn beta is correct. How would you get ifn beta in the US for HCV?
Since you have only mild damage you might want to wait with the combo treatment until "harder' data from the US trials are in or better until it is approved for HCV treatment.

Thanks for your comments.  The interferon beta is approved in the US for multiple sclerosis.  Undoubtedly the future will yield better tx, however, being very symptomatic I'm ready to take action.  Thanks again for your contributions.

What I meant is how would you get someone in the US to prescribe ifn beta  for your HCV teatment and would any insurance pay for it here? Re the Alinia I suspect that the actual presentation at the liver meeting will bring likely bring additional clarity and info that might help to weigh in on any decision to use it off label. I will probably attend this presentation and we could discuss this additional info in early November.

Fortunately, I have an open minded MD who will write script.  I don't have insurance (am self employed) so will request charity meds from pharm co.

I will certainly look for info gleaned from liver meeting.  I can't thank you enough for taking time to help us.  If you're ever in Austin, Tx and need something please look me up.
