CIDP prognosis

by Cookie, RN, Sep 25, 2007 03:11PM
Hello! I am a 22 year old female recently diagnosed with CIDP, chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy and I'm seeing a neurologist. I get IVIG every 3 weeks but it really only helps me for a short while (a matter of 2 weeks) and then the symptoms of peripheral burning and weakness in my arms (especially my left) begins again. I'm wondering what the prognosis is for me. My doctor has been very vague saying every individual is different but he adds that my case is "mild". I just want to know if  I can have a functional life, work my occupation as an RN, have children and overall be able to be happy. I'm getting a second opinion in December but I'm looking for answers now. I'm just having a hard time coping because I have no prognosis. I feel like I'm too young and otherwise very healthy to have an autoimmune disease. Will this ever go into remission? Am I'm doomed to live a deblilating life?
