Cirrohsis

by Crys4545, Sep 28, 2007 10:36AM
My Mom has been in the hospital a little over a week now.  We are told she has Alcoholic Cirrhosis and Hep.  We have also been told that she has Hepatic Encephalopathy.  I have asked how long we are looking at, and have been told she is stable and improving.  However, over the last week she has had jaundice, Fluid in Lungs and Abdomen and had to have Oxygen because she was having difficulty breathing.  As of this morning her Ammonia level was down from 90 to normal and her Bilirubin level was at 4.4, she was also off the Oxygen and doing better.  I just need someone to help with the situation because the doctor has said she is far from normal and that she will need to go to a nursing home for several months.  Nevertheless, he is expecting her to recover; I am not sure what to believe at this point because they do not even know how much damage she has to here liver or the amount of Cirrhosis.  Can someone help me answer these questions and is it actually possible to do a full recovery

Your mother has some very serious liver problems. If she has encephalopathy then she has what's called a decompensated liver.
We are not doctors.  Nobody here knows your mother's condition like a good doctor would. Whether a full recovery is possibly would be impossible for anyone to say over a computer. Although I like to believe anything is possible.  No matter what, your mother needs to stop drinking.
                         Good luck.
