albumin

by dlr2007, Sep 28, 2007 02:07PM
Hi Everyone- I read on this site recently that an albumin level of 3.6 can mean trouble. My husband's albumin fluctuates- here are the readings;
8/98- 4.2
8/99-  3.9
8/01- 3.7
8/03- 4.2
5/06- 3.7
3/07- 3.3 L - but he had pleurisy
8/07- 3.7

His platelets are also back down- from 165 when he had pleurisy to 106 now.
Is the albumin being pretty low a sign of increasing liver damage? I know I've asked too many questions about bloodwork, when he should just go get a bx, but he is STILL refusing and I'm trying to gather info. He is not on tx. I'm still trying to get him to go for a bx. Now would be a great time, since my bx results were good, so I have time to care for him thru tx if need be.
  Thanks for any input.

My last wellness test had the range for albumin of 3.5 to 5.2 so your husband's level of 3.6 is low but not below the range.

Are you saying both of you are hcv +?

Thank you both for your replies.
Jakied- yes, my hubby and I are both Hep C+. I've had it for about 17 years, he's had it for anywhere from 18-28 years. I'm only a Stage 1 by some miracle. It remains to be seen what stage he is- my best guess would be a Stage 3, from his bloodwork, but I'm no doctor.
Goldyn- That's very reassuring- thank you for telling me that. I hope my hubby is only Stage 2!!  Hope all is well with you- I haven't been keeping up with everyone's posts lately. This morning I'm gonna try to catch up!
  Best wishes,
-Dee
