First, the sleep stuff won't work if you're in full withdrawals. Nothing will. Once the suboxone normalizes him, he should stop taking it. It's VERY addictive, and not necessary at that point. (It's a barbiturate).
Stop the clonidine is a good idea, but mostly because he shouldn't need it with the suboxone. PLUS, he's going to need to take it when he comes off the suboxone, and he doesn't want to build up a resistance to it. If you take clonidine more than a week or so, you also have to worry about hypertensive rebound, and you don't want to deal with that...if he has been taking it that long, you may want to talk to the doctor about a fast taper schedule.

If the doctor is telling you he'll be totally fine when he comes off the suboxone, he's LYING or UNINFORMED.

He'll be better than with the methadone, this is true. But he will still suffer withdrawals (sorry to tell you this). He should do the full one month detox, give the methadone as much time as possible to work out of his system (it takes months, actually).

You should start planning his after care for when he comes off the suboxone now. It takes a lot of physical and mental preparation, and it's a lot of work. He needs to understand all of this, so he doesn't have the typical reaction of coming off his detox  and "freaking out" over the fact he still isn't feeling well and running out to get drugs in a panic.

hi there ... hope all is well today.  hope everybody was able to get a little sleep. how is your son doing w/the suboxone?  thats good that it worked for him.  make sure he goes to counseling - it will help tremendously .. anyways, Barbiturates are a group of sedative/anesthetic drugs. Some of these have a high potential for abuse, and all are controlled drugs ... just googled the information .. if you need more info on it ... google 'barbiturates' and you can go from there and get names of some of the meds if needed ... keep us posted on everything .. have a great day~  ;-)

thanks for your posts,we are hoping he sleeps tonight....he doesnt have the horrible leg and back pain at this point, that sub seems like a miracle....I am going to have him still try a hot bath to relax, still cant shower due to the healing abcess's. the sleeping pills(temazepam) didnt work and the zyprexa the night before didnt work either. Maybe because he was in full on w/d and nothing was going to work. we even tried the natural supplement melatonin with out sucess. He is also on three antibiotics and we stopped the clonidine as he is no longer w/ding. Probably just too much in the body right now for it all to work. He will be on the sub for 10 days to a month, just depends on what the docs think.counseling for 2 months(32 sessions) if he sticks it out. Not to sound dumb, but what type of drug would a barbituate be??? not that up on all the drugs..Thanks for everyones help and prayers it has helped us soooooo much:) I am hoping for sleep tonight for both of us...I am tired too so off to bed i go. I will keep everyone posted on his progress..Good thoughts to all and thanks for caring.

thats great that he started the suboxone!  how long is he going to do this for? is he doing a rapid detox on it ( short-term ), like 10-14 days or not? just wondering .. i'm on suboxone also, just had another appt today, decided not to take me down another 1/2 since i've been soo depressed for the last 2 months .. anyways, i had the same problem w/sleep - couldn't get any and i felt like a walking zombie .. what did they give him to help sleep?  my sub dr gave me seroquel, which i found works great but found that i had a hard time getting up and getting motivated .. he switched me over to vistaril and that really seems to help .. basically it helps relax you and its also a antihistamine & non addicting ... well, good luck, hope he is feeling better and continues w/the counseling.  it will definately benefit him ... hope you have a good nite ... ;-)

He should be able to sleep fine after a normalizing on the suboxone. Is it possible he had a barbituate addiction as well? I'ts common to mix drugs. If so, he's going to have to deal with that seperately, the suboxone won't help with that.
He may also need to learn proper sleep habits. It'll sound stupid to him, but it's a better route than tossing pills down your throat to fix the problem. Sleep is the one thing you can't medicate for successfully over time. He'd be better off trying to find a non-narcotic solution. He'll be happier in the long run.

6 nights of pure hell. He made it though, today was his appointment w/the doc for suboxone. He is doing very well. 5 min after the norcal shot and sub he said he was feeling better and actually had a smile on his face.(i havent seen a smile in a very long time) he will be monitered at the office for two days and then starts counseling on thursday. Plze pray for us as he is already feeling that he doesnt need all of the counseling sessions. I have let him know that i expect him to finish he owes it to himself to do this right. Not to mention this is costing me a small fortune, and i wont be able to do this again for him.
