blood vessel malformation

by anny sun, Oct 03, 2007 11:45PM
hello,  doctor,

i am a girl from shanghai, china, and helping my dad to consult something.

my dad is now 53 years old, and was born with the malformation of blood vessels, his right arm got AV. he has experienced 2 operations about 13 years ago. the first time was to cut his angioma of the artery under his collarbone, which was a success; however, the second one was after half a month, to cut the angioma in his right forearm and right wrist, but during the second operation, surgeons found that the whole arm was malformed by both arteries and veins lying across each other, and the artery is segmental vasodilation, looks like grapes. after the operation, maybe because of ligating a certain blood vessel, the supply of blood on his thumb tip is not good enough, so it is gradually appearing black,  drying up, necrotic, and the most important is that he can't stand the pain, which is torturing him day and night. the skin on his finger is very fragile, and when a very little external force comes to his finger, it will bleed, the blood is like spurting...

i know that the disease is not curable, but have u got some idea to release or reduce the pain for these kind of patients? i am looking forward to your reply with eagerness.

thanks for your time.
