Anyone takin Methodose?

by curious7109, Mar 05, 2007 12:00AM
I have been on Methodose 10mg for about 1 year now.  I shattered all 3 bones in my leg due to a motorcycle accident.  I was perscribed vicodin for several months but my insurance ran out so my friend has been giving a methodose that he is perscribed at a vary fare price.  I did not realize they were as strong as they are and I am having trouble getting off them.  I just lost my job so I can't afford to buy them anymore.  I also do not have insurance.  Other then just stopping cold turkey is there anyother way of doing it for a very inexpensive price?

Hi curious.  I'm really sorry you got sucked into taking such a strong opiate for pain relief outside the medical system.  Without a doctor, it's just that much more difficult to get off the stuff.  Methadone may not get you "high", but it sure can make you physically dependent - and fast.  Have you tried checking with the Addiction board for advice on quitting?  I've read through many posts on that board, and while it won't be easy, many people have some "tricks of the trade" for easing the withdrawal symptoms.  Kudos to you for trying to quit.

We have local clinics all over our area that give methodose to people who are on it and trying to get off. Try calling around to your local free health clinics. I'm sure someone can tell you where a free methdose clinic is.

My g/f takes methadose 40 mg tablets for chronic pain.  She is prescribed 8 a day so 320 mgs a day.  I think that is a massive amount considering she is only 5'5 and 150 lbs. but her pain doctor prescribes this, and he is the expert.  I do know that methadose is pretty inexpensive - a 30 day supply for her with insurance is only $7.00 a month, and without insurance would be $92.00 a month and that's for 320 mgs a day. So even without insurance, its pretty cheap.

It sounds like you have legitimate pain so if it helps with your pain, then I would talk to your doctor about prescribing it to you.  But I can also understand that you dont want to be on it.

Best of luck to you.

My father broke his neck and is on 120 mg of methadone a day which is the max.

He has been on them for over 5 years and probably will never be off of them.
If I were you I would follow a previous posters advice and find a detox to get yourself off of them.  Im sure there are detoxes for people that do not have insurance.  They have alot more consequences then you realize.

Methadone is not designed for injuries, it is designed for chronic pain and conditions that are long term if not lifetime.

Methadone is definately not for injuries as was mentioned, but for chronic pain when it is used for pain.

I would suggest going and speaking to a doctor in regards to coming off it, as the withdrawals are nothing to joke around about and can last... and last.. and last... If not worse.

If you are trying to get off the stuff for what ever reason, try and get followed by someone *I realize you dont have a lot of money, but this is very serious stuff*.

Good luck !

Within the last month I weaned off 30 mg a day of Methadose after being on it for almost a year.  I went through a pain mgmt rehab program that helped me stay "distracted" from the side effects.  If you are not able to go through a rehab program do not go off it cold turkey.  You will go insane!  I weaned off it 2.5 mg every 4 days.  At first I didn't feel to much of a difference but once you start getting closer to the end your body will want more.  You will want to take more than you should but if you hang in there the strong side effects will lessen within a couple of weeks.  Again I'm not saying it will be easy but I can tell you I'm so glad to be off that strong narcotic.  If you need to support through the process email me at clot_man***@**** since I know what you will be going through.

I have been on 50mg a day for over 5 years through pain mgmt for chronic post surgical back pain. I thought my dose was high until I read this thread. 120mg a day! Whoaa!!! I too feel my pain is at a stage where I can begin to ween myself off this stuff. I dont want to be dependent on this **** my whole life. Not to mention the paranoia that goes along with being tied to a drug."What if" scenarios start playing in your head. What if I am seperated from this drug for more than 2 days? I will start having withdrawls that will make kicking heroin seem like childs play. My advice to anyone coming off this stuff is to ween and ween off slowly. I am talking a couple of years folks. Especially if you are on high doses for long periods of time.

I was on Methodone 120 mg a day for  my Heroin addiction. Thanks to methadone i was able to kick the heroin habit. but turned out that methadone addiction was much worst then heroins and anything i could possibly imagine. I start to ween off of it little by little but i did feel little withdraw symptoms. but it was nothing untill i got my self arrested and got locked up for some time. Unfortunatly prison i was in did not have methadone maintance program so i had to go cold  turkey. I mean they did gave me tylenol three. but it was nothing. I was sick for about a month. I thought i'm going to die or go insane. I can honestly say it was worst time of my life. And withdrawal i could not even imagine when i was hooked to heroin. but thanks god i'm off of it and heroin. And never planning to go back. Maybe its a memories of my withdrawals that hold me back but i'm defenetly do not want to experiance it again.

I have been taking methadose for about 3 years. I have been taking anywhere from 50mg per day up to 80mg per day. I am TIRED of being addicted to a substance that I have to worry about going somewhere without the medication. I am ready to seek treatment, and I wanted to ask if I needed to go to my family doctor and tell him about my addiction, or do I need to seek treatment at a clinic? I can't go to rehab right now because I just started a GREAT new job working for the government and I also have to be here for my family. I have two children and I have to provide for them. I have a three year old daughter and I want to see her grow up without going through life in a fog. PLEASE advise, on what I should do. Again, should I go to my doctor and ask him if he can do anything for me? Is there any type of drug that can help with the withdrawals, or is weening off of the methadose the only way? I want to heed SectorSos's advice and not go cold turkey...

Thanks

I saw your comments and everyone else's comments but yours said to contact you for help with what I am going through. WOW! I was on 10 mlgs. of the methodose for 1 year and some other pain killers after a neck surgery 4 years ago. I was on oxicodone  for a few weeks and I moved across state and ran out. Man was I sick! I was sick for like weeks and the anxiety and the skin crawling were unbearable so I sought out a methadone  clinic for help. They, God bless them, only treated  heroin addicts but by the grace of God, they accepted me as their first "pain pill" withdraw person. I finally got down to 20 mlgs./day and then 10 mlgs. Later, a doctor who was treating me for my pain, upped the dose to 20 again.I was also taking vicodin. and at times moprhine. Sheesh! So I've weened off the vicodin and morphine  for a year or more but still taking the methadose. Now I've been trying to ween off of it and the fact is that the anxiety levels have sent me to the hospital many times for heart problems that were not heart related. So they gave me Atavan for anxiety and tomorrow I will ask my doctor what we can do. It's ruining my college attendance right now. Help me.

I just recently had a transplant surgery and was on 80 mg of methadone a day. The doctors there that are trained on withdrawal told me to wean by 5mg a week but also gave me a blood pressure medicine called clonodine (.1mg) because it helps with the opiate withdrawal. that really helped a lot. I am now down to 5mg and tomorrow is when I stop completely.  I will tell you it wasn't too bad at the beginning but once you get down to the low quantity, your body reacts and wants more. The muscle aches and everything sucks terribly. HOT baths help the muscle aches and I have ativan too. I take ativan, clonodine, and ambien to help me sleep and it's been pretty good. I haven't woken up too much. Go to the doctor and ask for something to help you sleep and the clonodine. Also. look up thomas recipe. it's a way to help with the withdrawals. you need certain vitamins. it's what causes the muscle aches and stuff. Don't let it ruin your college attendance. my pancreatitis made me drop out of college and I don't want you to do it too. Good luck. If you need anything, I'll be on here to check.
