Is percocet warranted?

by rw2001, Oct 08, 2007 06:07AM
Based on the following MRI results, could someone tell me what type of pain management/treatment would be warranted. In particular, do you believe that the answer should be long term use of  percocet? Are these MRI results significant enough to warrant the use of a narcotic pain reliever?

“There is mild straightening of the cervical spine but otherwise normal alignment of the vertebra.  The marrow signal is preserved.

At C5-6, there is degenerative bulging of the disc with a small broad based left paracentral disc herniation.  This imparts mass effect on the thecal sac with mild left forminal encroachment.

The remainder of the discs are normal in configuration without additional bulge or herniation.  The spinal canal is widely patent and the cervical cord is normal in caliber and signal intensity.

CONCLUSION: Straightening of the spine, which can be seen with muscle spasm. Left paracentral disc herniation at C5-6.”
