Neuropathic Pain Episodes - HELP!!!

My twelve year old son experiences episodes of severe peripheral neuropathic pain. We have been to three major hospitals including the Mayo Clinic where they have performed every test known to man, but not one test has ever turned up positive for anything.
The episodes generally occur in the evening over a period of several days. There is somewhat of a pattern. The first episodes are just in the arms. A few days later, sometimes even a few weeks later, while the arms are still hurting, he starts having episodes with the Legs. The episodes last for several hours. Motrin and other pain relievers do not help. But if he can be still, not let anything touch his arms or legs, and fall asleep, the episodes pass. After an episode he is weak and crippled.
Also, over time we noticed that these episodes are brought on by strenuous exercise or stress. The very first episode started immediately after he recieved a Hepatitis-A vaccination.
No one seems to have an answer for us. In the mean time this insidious disease, or what ever it is, continues to destroy the life of my son.
Has anyone ever heard of anything like this?
