aortic sclerosis/insufficiency

by cilla500, Oct 09, 2007 01:14PM
I am a healthy 38 year old woman. I went for a physical recently and my new physician detected a heart murmur. I had an echo and have been told I have aortic sclerosis and some aortic insufficiency. I've been told I can continue to exercise (4-6 hours/wk, cardio and weight training) and lead my life as I do now (healthy eating).  I need to follow-up with and echo every year from now on. My doctor said that hopefully this will not be something I have to deal with for 15-20 years  but it needs to be monitored.  He also said it is not necessary to take antiobiotics for dental procedures, etc. at this point.  Is this a realistic prognosis.  I have some anxiety and lots of questions and have made an appointment with a Cardiologist.  Is this the beginning of heart disease or full-on heart disease.  I have two small children and I am very concerned about my future and theirs as well.  Best,
cilla
