Scalp pain

by thepurselady, Oct 10, 2007 12:25PM
I dont know why or how but I have severe stinging pain in my scalp. I go in for a biopsy soon.  To make a long story short I was told it was a possible neuralgia type pain, but I can feel the skin tugging very tight.

question:  How does inflammation etc or injury damgage these scalp nerves?  Is it just the nerve ending that gets damaged can someone explain the way scalp nerves work in lay mans terms?  And if the nerve endings are irritated what would cause a flushing to the area of pain?

Thanks for your help.

This sounds like something my mom has and unfortunatley no one knows what it is.  She has constant throbbing pain in her head, there appear to be cracks folds/cracks in her scalps which seems to be detached from her skull.  If I find something I'll let you know.

Hello.

The nerve endings in the scalp are pretty much the same as they are in other parts of the body. The only difference here is that the nerve endings are a little spread out.

The stinging pain may not necessarily be a nerve ending problem. Your symptoms may be part of migraines. I do not know any more symptoms of yours. It will help if you can mention them, if you have any.

Can you mention which areas of the scalp you get the pain?

Regards

Sorry it has been so long since I had posted.  I did not see your response.  As for symptoms I also have blurry vision on and off, foggy sensation,  heart flopping feeling in chest and a general sick feeling when the scalp flares. It gets light pink on my crown and real pink on the nape of my neck.  My eyebrows also burn and sting.  Nose hair, lashes and brows shed out, as does scalp hair. I have lost about 40% all over the entire head which seems not to want to ever grow back.

Today the right top of my skull started with waves of steady pain, parietal and upper
posterior occipital area. Also the scalp started burning, the slightest fingertip touch pro=
duced about #9 on the pain scale.  I have never experienced pain like this or the burning.
It feels like a parathesia, once in awhile I get this type of burning over my thights.
