post gastrectomy nausea

by bob10940, Oct 11, 2007 09:38PM
does anyone have experience dealing with post gastrectomy morning nausea and vomiting. My wife had a partial gastrectomy to relieve unresponsive ulcers. Since then -more than 1 year- every morning she wakes up to a feeling of nausea and frequently gagging/wretching.this goes on for 2-3 hours. Her GI MD keeps changing meds but nothing seems to work. Anyone out there have experience with this.more importantly has anyone successfully dealt with it? HELP!!!!!

Do you know if it was the lower part of her stomach and the pyloric sphincter (the muscular opening that separates the stomach from the duodenum) that was removed? And if so, is she experiencing bile reflux? People who experience bile relux can have a very difficult time trying to bring the condition into line. In some cases it may be necessary to change the configuration around somewhat in a Roux-en-Y configuration to get some relief.
