Strep? How long can it be checked?

by genezkool323, Oct 11, 2007 09:43PM
About 4 days ago I found that my right gland under my neck was swollen. That night I came down with a fever around 103 and my right tonsil was really sore. I woke up the next day with the same fever and it subsided around 3 PM. While I had it I could barely move and I was very dizzy and I took a lot of ibuprofen and drank a lot of orange juice. I went for a walk outside but when I came back I relapsed into fever for another night with a high of 103 again. By this time my right tonsil and gland had receded by my left tonsil and gland under my neck are now swollen and hurting.

Today my fever is pretty much absent and I can function normally except for my throat still hurting. Someone told me my symptoms are like strep. It also seems that it is like mono but I'm not particularly tired.

My symptoms are pretty much gone, but should I still go to the doctor and get tested for strep? Would it still be in my throat or would it have gone dormant by now if this is what I had?

Thanks!

Well if your only symptom is a sore throat right now, you could possibly have strep. A fever is another symptom and even if you don't you should go to your doctor to get it checked out. Strep is contagious until you can get some antibiotics for it. and untreated strep can lead to scarlet fever, or in very rare cases kidney failure(don't worry that won't happen). But I know my brother had untreated strep and he got a rash on his back, thats when we knew, so it wouldn't hurt to go get it checked out.

Good luck!
