Cancerous thymus tissue in thyroid

by hopeful25, Oct 12, 2007 11:39PM
I am hoping that maybe someone out there can offer me their experience with my situation.  2 weeks ago I had a partial thyroidectomy, the thyroid tissue came back fine however there was a piece of thymus tissue in the tumor that was cancerous.  My surgeon told me not to worry about any further treatment without having my thymus even checked!  I'm very scared and obviously worried about forgetting about the fact that I had cancer.  Please if you have any advice or experience, share.

I would get a second opinion.  If I recall correctly, the type of ThyCa that usually appears in they thymus is medullary.  And while it still has a very good prognosis... it is a more aggressive type of ThyCa.  Did they tell you what type of CA was present?

No matter what it was, there should be follow up.  Your surgeon is not an endo, right?  Go to an endo... get another opinion.

Just my $.02.
