Hi,
I am a 45 year old woman and I had rectocele repair surery June 29,07 and I am greatful that this doctor noticed it because no other GYN or Gasto doctor ever did, I tought it was just normal to have severe bowel problems because of my irritable bowel syndrom. but when I had to go to a new GYN because my doctor was on maternity leave. I was placed with the new doctor who was a "URO- GYNACOLOGIST" and I must say as soon as he started to examine me he said "you have a problem here" and he continued questioning me about my bowel habits which I was uncomfortable talking about, but he hit the nail on the head...he knew my every symtom...I felt embarressed and nervous at the same time. well he did the surgery on june 29th this year and I am still having PAIN in the vaginal area, I told the doctor I feel a stitch when I insert my finget toward the back/bottom of my vagina ....the sititch AND the area around the stitch really hurt .when my husband and I had sex we had to stop what we were doing because I just cant take the pain. when I spoke to the doctor about it He said the sticitches can stay there for a while..BUT I find that weird...esspesiall if they are causing the surounding area to be in pain. He did fix my terrible bowel problems most definetly....but what did I trade that for? for painful sex with my husband THAT I HAVE BEEN WITH FOR over 20 years? Is the stitch being there normal ? and is it normal for it to hurt around the stitch area?. Also I have had 3 UTI's since the operation. and a yeast infection too..I believe it is the stitches being up inside the vaginal area that are making me get UTI's and a yeast infection was probably because of the three rounds of antibiotics I have been on. PLEASE HELP ME TO KNOW WHAT TO DO I AM DEPRESSED AND CONFUSED...MY ONCE THRIVING LOVE LIFE IS DESTROYED....

Hi, You should not be in pain at 4 months after surgery. If your surgeon does not give you satisfactory answers, you need to get a second opinion from a qualified pelvic floor surgeon. You should go to the society of gynecologic surgeons (SGS) website ( www.sgsonline.org) or the American Urogynecologic Society (AUGS) website (www.augs.org) and put in your zip code in the "row women" part of the site. You will see a list of SGS or AUGS members in your area. Call a few of them and ask where they did their urogynecology fellowship training. Find one that is fellowship trained (2 or 3 years of fellowship training beyond residency is customary). Go to one of these, and have them evaluate you.

I went to Dr. Jeanette M., Rivera, MD in conneticut today. she is a uro -gyn. she said that it was not a stitch that I was feeling . It was the mesh itself !! It is coming through the vaginal area,I am so upset ....I don't know how this could have happened. The surgery was done by dr. Ronald Dinsmore of Hudson Valley hospital in new york... I just saw him for my last post 2 weeks ago and he said nothing is wrong. but today when I saw Dr. Rivera she said that it was very easily felt. she said that the mesh could have rolled onto itself , but she said that the one he used she does not deal with and therfore she suggested that I should go back to him. But he lied to me 2 weeks ago when he dismissed my pain at my last post op.... and I am extremly upset that I had to go to another state to get a second opinion when he probaly felt it himself , but he made me believe it was in my head. the doctor I saw today is sending him a report of her findings and then she said I should make an appointment to sit and talk with him about fixing this , but to be honest with you I DO NOT TRUST HIM AT ALL...I am extreamly depressed...I am trying to hide it from everyone because I feel so lost. But I did what you said and I went to the sites that you suggested and I found a doctor who does pelvic floor reconstrution surgery..I live in New York and this doctor is in Conneticut too, but at this point I dont care....It is hard to travel because of my spinal disease But If I have to go I will.
His name is doctor Brian Hines in stamford conneticut. DO YOU THINK I SHOULD GO STRAIGHT TO HIM OR BACK TO DINSMORE AND CONFRONT HIM AND TRUST HIM TO FIX IT...what I am asking is what would you personally tell me if I was your relative? How would you guide me?
