Protein in Urine

by HillaryMcFalls, Oct 16, 2007 11:12AM
I have a high level of protein in my urine.  This is not the first time.  Last year they found blood in my urine but it was gone the next time I tested.  I have heard that physical activity can lead to protein in urine.  How much activity would typically cause this.  I do aerobics and weight training about 8 hours a week.  Could this be the cause?

I am in good shape and very healthy.  I think.

Protein in the urine could also be from a bladder infection, so can blood in the urine.
If you are working out at 8 hrs per week, you should not be breaking down muscle to cause proteinuria. Get checked for diabetes and high blood pressure. If these are negative, then have your physician do a 24 hour urine protein collection to see how much protein you are losing. If this is in the normal range, you are probably OK. If you are still worried, visit an internal medicine physician or a nephrologist. Better yet, ask over at the nephrology forum...
