Skin Infection following minor surgery

by sicky06, Oct 18, 2007 02:02PM
Hey I recently underwent a minor surgical removal of a cyst- like lesion on my penis. It was under the foreskin underneath the head of the penis. After the procedure, which was done about a week ago, i developed a minor skin infection by the stitching. I went to my GP and he prescribed nova cephalexin for me to take 4 times daily for a week. Well, i finished my course of antibiotics but the swelling and redness has not gone down. I have done some research over the internet and have come to conclude that this may be a cellulitis infection, but the web definition and complications of it has me worried to death. My question is, is minor cellulitis common after small surgical procedures and how long does it usually take to get better from them? I have been off work for about a week now and am beginning to  feel like a slug. I have seen my urologist many times and he re assured me that nothing is wrong and that hes seen worse infections with curcumsicions. The redness is a streak going from the area of the stiching to the left of my penis. I retract my foreskin everytime i urinate so that i dont get urine on the wound and irritate it, and i apply polysporin to it about 3 times daily. Do you think this infection will slowly get better or will i need a hospital visit or another course of antibiotics? Please help!!
