Nuchal Thickness Issue

by psharm1, Oct 18, 2007 09:52PM
My wife had her nuchal thickness measurement come out at 3.5mm during the 11.5th week of her pregnancy.  The genetic tests (CVS) for the chromosomes have come out as normal.  What are the key risks to her pregnancy?  How elevated is our risk of some abnormality to the baby?

The CVS results would overrule the NT thickness.  The NT test is just a marker and to help you to decide whether or not to do a definative procedure like amnio or cvs.  If the cvs is saying the chromosomes are normal, then as far as anyone can tell the baby is chromosomally normal as this test is more than 98% accurate, although there are a number if things cvs or amnio do not test for such as spina bifida or other nongenetic problems.  You may want to post this on the doctor-to-patient forum for a professional opinion but with normal CVS results I think you can expect a normal pregnancy and delivery and I also do not think your risk would be elevated because you saw a larger NT with the normal CVS.
