multiple mouth ulcers/ blisters?

by newwife, Sep 07, 2006 12:00AM

I am a 29 year old female, newly married and trying to concieve. For the past year possibley longer I have been getting mouth ulcers and or blisters. It use to be just one every now and then, but now I have about 2 episodes a month resulting in mulitple (Lining the form of my lips on the inside, where the gum meets the lip, sometimes on the sides of my tounge, and possibly on my throat but I cant see them), it does seem to sometimes mimic the timing of my hormonal cycles ( ovulation and period), I take a muti vitamin everyday ( prenatel) and a Lysine tablet 2 times a day, I use a soft tooth brush, I dont eat sharp food, I use Lysterine, I use an canker soar/ oral iritation mouth wash containing peroxide...*sigh*

My doctor told me that he did not believe they were herpes related, for one they tend to vary in where they are located ( however now I get so many that there is little chance of showing up in a new place), they are clear blisters in small groups that burst on there own or I do it with my tounge because of the irritation, they usually turn whiteish, they are tender, they do not crust over or turn yellow like herpes ( from what I have read), I dont get a fever...

Please help! i am so frustrated!

I used to get a lot. My dr suggested a sensitivity to sodium laruel sulfate (sp?) that makes toothpastes foam. He had me switch to "biotene" (found at walmart and target and stuff.. $4.xx a tube) and I also started using biotene mouth wash. I have had VERY few canker sores / mouth abcesses since.. so I think he was right on for me.

Also when you do get these sores remember to soak your toothbrush in boiling water, listerine, or toss it and get a new one or you could be reinfecting your mouth

that's interesting about the toothpaste, but i wonder if it can be a little hormonal. i tend to get not tons, but at least one big canker sore a month (not necessarily every month, but almost every). my dh even noticed that i'm getting it about once a month. i'm going to try to keep track of it for the next few months and see about when it comes out - i think it's usually some time during my 2WW b/c i always say ooohh, maybe a sign of pregnancy - nuts, i know, but we grasp at straws here.

Just a thought:

I went on a diet several years back and drank nothing but tea. I ended up with a mouthful of canker sores...Maybe you are eating or drinking something to cause them? I quit the tea, no more canker sores!

Hi,
I suffer from the same affliction and have also found a relation to hormones.  I get them more around the time of my period.  I also noticed that I had almost no flareups, or only minor ones, when I was breastfeeding my son.  I have found that kanka (available in most pharmacies) is a good topical pain reliever.  It coats the ulcers.  I've even tried to put them way back in my throat.  But I also switched toothpaste years ago and it did nothing for me.  I was just reading that there's some evidence that it could be the result of a yeast infection and that eating yogurt regularly and sucking on lollipops that restore good bacteria could help.  I'm about to try it.  Thought I'd pass it on to you!  Good luck!  I know how painful they are.

I am male and have no hormonal cycle and I too get multiple kanker sores every once and a while.  Sometimes 5 and 6 at a time located all throughout my mouth.  They do come and go but it seems like if one comes there will be more to follow but when they all go its a while before they all come back again
