Refusal to wear underwear.

by Linda1947, Oct 22, 2007 02:43PM
My husband and I have been babysitting our 3 yr. old grandson several days a week.  He is in the process of being potty trained by us and by his parents.  However, after being changed, he often doesn't want to put back on his pull up pants or a diaper.  We have been making him sit on the potty chair rather than his regular time-out chair since he won't wear anything to protect himself.  Do you have any suggestions on how to handle this behavior?

Thank you!

Put big boy pants on him, if he has an accident try not to scold him. If he is at the beginning of potty training and having a lot of accidents, then put him in a diaper or pull up diaper with a onsie that he cannot get off.  It sounds like he wants to wear big boy pants but is still making too much of a mess to leave em in them. I do not think I would want him to associate the time out chair with going potty! That one could backfire! lol

I have two boys--both are potty trained--but there are times still that they love to run around the house with no underwear on---let him go if it right after he just went on the toilet--give him five minutes to air out--then put him in his diaper or pull up or underwear...there is nothing wrong....there are times that my oldest son (4 1/2) will put his pants on without underwear--as long as he is not going to school that day I let him go that way--he just feels comfortable.
