Biopsy

by looking4britefuture, Oct 22, 2007 03:58PM
Im concerned about any scarring to the skin after sterotactic biopsy. I am schdeuled for next week.  I understand i will be laying face down on the table, will be numbed.  They will take xrays to located the calcifications and remove tissue.  I need it done in both breasts.  Will there be any dimpling of thw skin because of tissue removed? Im 43.  Wow they dont rush for this either.  I was told in August, and now its October the biopsy is scedule, but still scared.  Any comforting thoughts.

I am 3 weeks out from my stereotactic core biopsy and there is no long term damage. I have a tiny scar from the incision, it is barely noticeable so I would imagine that in a couple of months it will be completely gone. The bruising is still bad but is getting a little better every day. I am just one of those people that bruise really easily and always get huge bruises from tiny bumps so that may be just me. There is a knot where they took the samples from, but it does not make my breast look any different. The dr told me it will take about 6 months for it to completely go away. Good Luck with your biopsy. Hopefully it will turn out benign as 80% of these things are. Blessings- Laura

Thank you for your information. Its nice to have support from people.  Knowing others go through the same thing to help you through it.   I just found out my insurance wont cover if i do both sides.  I need a biopsy on both now i have go in twice for this. First on tuesday then friday.  Insurance in crazy.  The knot is from where they took the sample out. Is it like from scar tissue?  I feel it will be benign, its just u have to go through it to find out. Thanks again

I had a stereotactic biopsy done last week for the removal of calcifications in right breast. The steri-strips are still covering the incision - but the incision is small.  I ended up with a hematoma resulting from the mammogram after biopsy - so still pretty swollen & extremely bruised. I believe the scarring will be very minimal.  Appears the results are inconclusive - a possible missed biopsy for me -therefore hematoma has to totally heal - going back in February for another mammo and possible rescheduling of another biopsy.  Best wishes to you as you go through this - I know a lot of anxiety occurs. You are not alone.

Hi, I guess i wasn't even thinking of the bruising involved. Is is pain or just a look.  Since im going in on Tuesday and Friday.  I have to do this twice.  This sucks, sorry.  Im sorry you had to do this.  You dont even have an answer.  Now you have to wait.  Where did they make the incision?  Are you able to go about your day? What does a missed biopsy mean?  did they miss the area, calcifications, totally?  I dont sometimes even know what to ask.  And then wonder is it worth going through this.  I dont know if i want to know.  It is scary. Im  talking very minimal to family n friends about it.  So thought a forum would be a good place.  It is. Thanks Good Luck keep in touch

It's hard to tell if the pain is coming from the actual biopsy or the hematoma- probably from both - I'm sure if the hematoma would not have occured, that it would be less uncomfortable. The incision was made in the upper quadrant of my breast.  The first couple of days I felt so tired - so make sure you rest.  I applied ice the first 24 hours and then moved to a heating pad - actually I'm still using a heating pad every few hours for about 15 minutes or so - it seems to help.  From what I understand a missed biopsy is that they did not get the calcifications out - (But I really think they got them) I'm told the calcifications are microscopically small & could come out in blood or even get stuck in the biopsy needle???  It's quite confusing.  I really wanted to get an answer on the calcification being benign or not - now it's unknown, unless when I go back in February and the calcifications show back up on the mammo.  They put a marker in my breast to show where the biopsy was done & show up on futures mammos.  Ask them if they are going to do that for you too.  Please make sure you rest the first couple of days.  It's amazing to me how tired I felt - because I was not medicated - just a valium before procedure and then the numbed the breast -  I think your body knows it's going through some trauma and rest is important.  I'm 40 years old.   Take care of yourself !  :)
