Question about MRI results on 1 yr old son

by jayla1272, Oct 23, 2007 02:35PM
I just received results of my son's MRI and wondered what the findings mean, while I wait for the Neurologist appt.

Findings: The fourth, third and lateral ventricles are withing normal limits in size and position. There is no evidence of midline shift or mass effect.

There is "dimpling" of the mid body of the left lateral ventricle with a linear focus of CSF signal intensity extending laterally from the ventricle. There is gray matter identified lining this cleft and this finding is indicative or closed lip schizencephaly on the left. There is associated thinning of the prechiasmic optic nerves, consistant with optic nerve atrophy, correlating witht he finding of clost lip schizencephaly. The septum pellucidum is intact wiht no evidence of septal optic dysplasia.

Conclusion:
1. Closed lip schizencephaly on the left
2. Prechiasmic optic nerve atrophy correlating with the findings of closed lip schizencepaly.

WHAT?

Thank you
