trazodone prn correction

sorry, I forgot to say it is for insomnia, not for depression

That's what it was prescribed to me for, insomnia.  It says right on the label to take it prn.  However, I started sleeping fine, so I never took it.  I still have it, though, as it hasn't expired.

That's pretty much the only useful benefit of Trazodone - Insomnia. It possesses potent Histamine I antagonist and anticholinergic properties, not atypical to that of Benadryl or Phenergan. The sedative effect is more pronounced with Trazodone.

For insomnia, p.r.n. use is fine. For the antidepressant effect to be apparent, it would need to be dosed a few times daily, or given as a larger daily dose. The antidepressant effect is apparent in two weeks.

50 mg is the standard dosage for insomnia.
